no witnesses

Love summer nights filled with long talks into the night, the city's skyline and the sound of waves around me..

immortals whom we dance with

Leftover from the Seacliff set. Much love for magically winding, wrapping vines.

And now, abrupt segue to a quote that has been lingering on my mind:
"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendours." - C. S. Lewis

june baby

Celebrated an old friend's birthday Saturday night with lots of hors d'oeuvres, mixed drinks, and an endless Michael Jackson playlist. Ah yes, and the panna cotta-making obsession continues. Happy happy birthday, dear Laura. :)

oh, it's so amazing here

Spent a good part of Saturday exploring Seacliff on a whim and got my fill of surf, sand and nature.

took ya long enough

Should I be concerned at all that I wake up thirsting for beer nowadays? I feel like the 'rents are two seconds away from marching me to AA.

then we wouldn't have to wait so long

This post is two-fold in the way that it summarizes my day but also serves a delicious side of irony, which I'll keep to myself. After brunch at Alice's Teacup, checked out the Sotheby's Polaroid exhibit for a generous dosage of William Wegman. He and David Levinthal were my favorites.

Images: rose-adorned flatware & scones @ Alice's Teacup; 'Roadblock' (& Rothko closeup) by William Wegman; 'Arches' by Ansel Adams.

gimme dat glucose

We were treated to some sweets from Dylan's Candy Bar today. The marbled gummi bears were eye-catching but not as tasty as one would hope... Definitely ended up incorporating ten gummi frogs as part of my lunch. MMM, nom nom nom... *cue TMJ*

let it fill the space in between

Lots of late nights this week, as we're prepping for next quarter... The view makes it a little better.

beet supplies

Finding beauty in the everyday is something I love and strive to do. What a pretty surprise after I finished my lunch today :) the natural color of beets is so beautiful.

c is for cabin fever and coulis

Temporarily cured my increasing cabin fever this weekend with lots of down time in Brooklyn.

I've got an inexplicable love for fire escapes and for some reason, my mind feels calmer when I have visible access to the skyline...

Also finally tackled panna cotta - this one was made with lots of goat cheese, so you know it was good. Did you know raspberry coulis is super easy to make, and that calling it 'coulis' instead of reduced-raspberry-mash is a lot more fancypants slash impressive?

small comforts

There's something so beautiful yet sad and fleeting about afternoon light. Snapped this quickly while on my way to Cafe Katya. I've been drooling all week thinking about this meal..

The perfect comfort food: emmantaler sausage, fresh cabbage drenched in a creamy sauce, quark dumplings, and a crisp glass of Allagash beer.

Happy Friday & weekend to all!
